We've all heard this about Fibromyalgia treatment:
"What works for one person doesn't work for another.
Says who?
We have the same illness, we have the same symptoms.
What is different is how the symptoms manifest themselves.
In one person at one time, her neck is the biggest problem, in another his hands and feet.
When you go to the doctor with a particular symptom that is causing you the most trouble at that time, they treat it as best they can.
For that symptom it may mean pain-killers.
At another time, when the patient has insomnia, the doctor may prescribe a sleep tablet.
Neither patient would be helped with the other's treatment in the short run. But both patients still have Fibromyalgia. The underlying cause is the same in both.
In FMS, Hyaluronan thickens in the body and does not reach all parts. It cannot be eliminated correctly and may build up to 10 times normal acidity.
We believe that treating Fibromyalgia correctly will work for most if not all of us.
This treatment method addresses four problems -
1. fatigue and pain caused by body-wide congestion (Entex LA)
2. over-acidity (calcium carbonate 'Tums', not eating highly acidic foods) (Most common FMS version)
3. insomnia (eye mask and ear plugs)
4. seritonin re-uptake (Paxil)
Pain is eliminated when everything else is working correctly.
The exact amounts of medications you must take may vary from one person to another, due to severity of symptoms. Those with other health problems have to work with their physicians to devise a treatment plan that takes that into account.
It is unlikely that most FMS sufferers will need the large quantities of guaifenisen, decongestant or alkali that I take.
If you have additional health problems or take other medications, you may be somewhat different from another person, but basically we think those of us with Fibromyalgia are all the same.
Without addressing all of the cause, the myth and suffering will persist.
The fights we face with this illness are still misinformation, apathy, greed, but most of all - ignorance.
"It's kind of fun to do the impossible."
Walt Disney (1901-1966)
